2012 Holiday Gift Guide: Santa's Hat by Linda Bleck
By: Linda Bleck
Since Raileigh was born, I have kept a stash of holiday-themed books for her to enjoy in the days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. You'll find books about reindeer and Christmas trees, Santa and the elves. You'll also find many books about Jesus, the manger, and the truth behind why we actually celebrate Christmas. In years past, I have enjoyed cuddling up and reading these books aloud to her. This year, I look forward to listening as Raileigh reads the books to me.
Each year, I try and add a few new titles to our growing collection. New books are always fun, especially when they are special ones that only make an appearance for a small period of time each year.
The first book we'll be adding this year is Santa's Hat, a sweet tale by Linda Bleck.
This story begins with Santa misplacing his very special iconic hat. So, Mrs. Claus suggest that he find a substitute for the day. Santa tries on all kinds of hats-- a baseball cap, a train conductor hat, a top hat, and more. None seem to be exactly what he's looking for.
The last-minute stand in turns out to be a hat that Mrs. Claus knitted that day. It's nice and warm and it's made from Santa's favorite colors. However, it just isn't the same. The book continues as Santa heads to the fall festival and his elves have a very special surprise waiting for him.
Raileigh and I have already been enjoying reading Santa's Hat. She giggled hysterically as Santa tried on each and every one of the silly hats. She also enjoyed pointing out why these hats were not a good option for Santa.
The illustrations are as bright and merry as the story. The colors are vivid and bold, and every page is incredibly crisp. They just draw you in to the delightful tale.
